Black or blank screen after attempting to boot to a properly installed Automation Folder or PXE config

Issue/Introduction

When attempting to boot to a properly installed automation folder or PXE config created for WinPE, the endpoint seems to hang on a blank black screen after loading the boot.wim.

Environment

GSS 3.x

DS 8..x

WinPE

Cause

Some machines have a feature in the BIOS named Kernal DMA Protection, and this option if enabled could prevent the machine from successfully booting to automation.

Resolution

Disable Kernal DMA Protection in the BIOS before booting to the Automation Folder or PXE config. This is usually found in the BIOS under Security > Virtualization.

If this does not resolve the issue, it is possible the issue could be related to a missing WinPE display driver.
