Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange

Issue/Introduction

After installing Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) 7.10, LiveUpdate no longer uses proxy or customized server information and reverts to default settings.
The settings affected include:

  • Proxy server information.
  • LiveUpdate Protocol configuration.
  • LiveUpdate Administrator server configuration.

Cause

There is a defect in the release build of 7.10 that prevents SMSMSE from loading the customized LiveUpdate server information, and SMSMSE reverts to the default.

Resolution

A patch has been released to address this issue.

  1. Stop the Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange service.
  2. Download the attached zip file, and extract the included file SavfmseEng.dll to the SMSMSE install directory
    Default Location: C:\Program Files\Symantec\SMSMSE\7.10\Server
  3. Configure proxy server settings per How to allow Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange 7.9.0 and later access to download virus definitions via a proxy server or the LiveUpdate administrator settings per Distributing virus definitions for Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) version 7.9.x via LiveUpdate Administrator 2.x.
  4. Restart the Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange and Symantec Mail Security Utility services.

After performing the above steps, SMSMSE should now use the configured proxy or LiveUpdate administrator settings.
