How to integrate vCenter with Spectrum

Could you please guide us with the steps for integration of VCenter with CA Spectrum.

Resolution

For VMware vCenter 6.5 or above you have to update the SystemEDGE vCenter plugin, review the KB article 133264.

DX NetOps Spectrum cannot directly manage vCenter. It requires a Proxy Manager.

The Proxy Manager is a dedicated machine where you install the SystemEDGE agent 5.9 (aka 12.9) + vCenter AIM plugin.

Once you model/discover the SystemEDGE host in Spectrum, it will discover all the Virtual environment managed by vCenter.

Once the SystemEDGE Agent and the vCenter plugin is installed on the dedicated machine, you have to run the NodeCfgUtil command line to configure the VMware vCenter plugin.

Configure AIMs with NodeCfgUtil in Command Mode

NodeCfgUtil.exe lets you modify the AIM configurations for IBM PowerVM, IBM PowerHA, Solaris Zones, VMware vCenter, VMware vCloud, Microsoft Clusters, Cisco UCS, Citrix XenServer, Citrix XenDesktop, RHEV, Active Directory and Exchange Server (ADES), or Huawei GalaX. The utility writes a configuration file for the corresponding AIM to the sysedge_InstallLpath\plugins\AIPCommon directory. You can also use the NodeCfgUtil utility to edit or remove existing entries.

When you use the utility in command mode, you can only add managed nodes to an AIM configuration.

Note: Run NodeCfgUtil.exe as Windows Administrator.

 

These are the information you need to add a new VMware vCenter in the nodecfgutil utility:

        1. Server Name: 
        2. User Name:
        3. Password:
        4. Port [default=443]:
        5. Protocol [default=https]:

 

Here are the basic steps to configure the VMware vCenter plugin via nodecfgutil utility:

a) The nodecfgutil.exe file is located in the following directory:
C:\Program Files\CA\SystemEDGE\plugins\AIPCommon>

b) Launch the nodecfgutil.exe utility in a DOS-Prompt window.

c) This is the main menu after launching the nodecfgutil.exe utility:

  *****  Main MENU  *****
  1. Install Managed Node
  2. Modify Managed Node
  3. Remove Managed Node
  0. Exit

  Enter choice:

d) Choose option 1. Install Managed Node:

  ****  Choose Managed Node  ****
  1. VMware vCenter
  2. Go Back to Previous Menu
  *******************************
  Enter choice:

e) Choose option 1. VMware vCenter.

The following information will be asked:

  1. Server Name:
  2. User Name:
  3. Password:
  4. Port [default=443]:
  5. Protocol [default=https]:

f) If you want to review the configuration of the existing vCenter entry in the nodecfgutil utility, choose option 2. Modify Managed Node from the main menu.

  1. VMware vCenter
  2. Go Back to Previous Menu

  Enter choice:

g) Choose option 1. VMware vCenter to review the existing configuration.

 

The VMware vCenter configuration should be saved in the following directory (depending on the port number you supplied to install the SystemEDGE agent):

C:\Program Files\CA\SystemEDGE\data\port161\plugins\cavmvcaim\
OR
C:\Program Files\CA\SystemEDGE\data\port1691\plugins\cavmvcaim\
