IDMS IDMS - Database

Issue/Introduction

Workloads that are likely to achieve the best results are those which consist of external request processing (ie: Batch/CV, CICS/DML requests, JDBC distributed requests, etc..) to the database engine, where only system mode requests are passed to IDMS from the external tasks.

Environment

Release: All supported releases.

Resolution

Most IDMS system code is eligible to run on a zIIP processor, so best results are with workloads that consist of external requests processing (ie: Batch/CV, CICS/DML requests, JDBC distributed requests, etc..) to the database engine. With these types of workloads only system mode requests are passed to IDMS from the external tasks.

Whereas, workloads with CA IDMS/DC and CA ADS online applications that execute in the same CA IDMS region as the database will see less benefit because user mode code is not eligible for zIIP execution and cannot be offloaded.

NOTE:  As of 19.0 enhancement PTF SO06651, ADS dialogs can execute in SRB mode, making them eligible to run on the zIIP specialty engines. It is recommended that PTF LU07930 and any pre-requisites also be applied.
