Issue/Introduction

We are planning to upgrade our Gen 8.5 CSE to Gen 8.6 and move to Windows Server 2019 with SQL Server 2016.
Are there any customers using Gen 8.6 with Windows Server 2019? I know it is not on the supported list ... but we in the planning stages and this migration may take time, so building for the future.
Is there any technical reason that should stop us going to Windows Server 2019 ?

Environment

Release : 8.6
Component : CA Gen Client Server Encyclopedia

Resolution

Currently for Gen 8.6, Windows Server 2019 is not supported and Windows Server 2016 is supported:
CA GEN 8.6 > Technical Requirements > Third-Party Software Version

1. We are not aware of any customers who are using a Gen 8.6 CSE with Windows Server 2019 or have reported any problems. It may be beneficial to post a question on the CA Gen Community to ask for any feedback: CA Gen EDGE Community

2. The certification of Windows Server 2019 with Gen 8.6 is planned to be complete by end of this Calendar Year 2020 and will likely be combined with that for SQL Server 2019.
NOTE: This is a forward-looking statement. This is subject to change at any time without notice. The development, release and timing of any features or functionality described remain at Broadcom's sole discretion.

3. Gen Engineering have not done any internal testing of the Gen 8.6 CSE with Windows Server 2019 yet. However, they are not expecting to encounter any problems.

4. Gen Support has done limited Gen 8.6 CSE testing with Windows Server 2019 Standard VM and SQL Server 2016.
Gen 8.6 installed without problems and the CSE Configuration run against a new SQL Server database was also successful.
With Gen 8.6 Complete (WKS86200) and other latest CSN PTFs installed, upload/download tests from the toolset were successful.
NOTE: These are positive results but do not imply any official support until formal certification is complete per #2 above.
