Spectrum install fails with the following message in the preinst log file: executeScript failed: (NULL)

Issue/Introduction

While trying to upgrade or fresh install 10.4.x, the following the install failed with the following errors in the preinst.xx.xx log:

Creating installation log: LOGS_20180907/
Starting installation
Extracting installation information
Verifying extraction key
Caching installation information files
Creating installation parameters
Checking installation filters
Determining components to install
Performing host evaluation
Executing pre-installation test scripts
Outputting installation summary to installation machine at:
/opt/spectrum/Install-Tools/LOGS/10.2.3.0.107_20180907/summary.08.12
Preparing host information
Checking for and preserving user modified files
Running pre-installation scripts
executeScript failed: (NULL)
SPC-INT-20029: Pre-installation failed
SPC-INT-20065: The installation of Spectrum is finished, but some errors occurred during the install. Please see the installation log for details.

Cause

The Spectrum processes were not shutdown before the distributed install was run. 

Resolution

Ensure that all Spectrum process have been stopped and then rerun the Spectrum install.
