Unable to View Project Properties after updating a lookup by XOG

Issue/Introduction

When viewing project list or after clicking into any project properties page, the error appears:
System Error. Contact System Administrator

There were no changes performed on the project object.

App-ca logs show:
ERROR 2020-05-07 06:35:12,259 [http-nio-14001-exec-4] niku.xql2 (clarity:adminuser:sessionid:projmgr.projectProperties) ServiceHandler.postProcess failed.

com.niku.union.odf.lookup.LookupException: java.lang.NullPointerException

Additional errors can be observed:

ERROR 2021-02-25 08:31:12,745 [http-nio-8080-exec-527] odf.lookup (clarity:userid:22601051__18F9056E-195B-4D5C-ACC1-3A6FB69F1EE1:projmgr.projectProperties) java.lang.NullPointerException

Cause

There was a change to a lookup tied to an attribute on the project object.
When a user clicks on any project properties page, the error will appear.

The error is caused by change made by a XOG update to a lookup attribute.

Another cause for this error:

When attempting to migrate changes from one environment to another developer removed the partition information from the XOG not realizing that would mess up the existing Partitioned Values.

Resolution

Developer XOG'd out lookup from working environment, this time kept the partition information in the XML and re-XOG’d the lookup.

Please note it is not recommended to update lookups that are in use. That is the reason why you are not allowed to update lookups in use through the Clarity UI
