Issue/Introduction

When computer resources are purged from a Child SMP server these computer resources should also be purged on the Parent SMP Server

Environment

ITMS 8.x running hierarchy

Cause

Purging functionality was added in ITMS 7.5 SP1 that purges "not local" computer resources on the Parent SMP Server when these resources are purged from a Child SMP server:

  1. During purging a new hierarchy event is sent to the Parent SMP Server indicating that specific resource(s) are subject for the next local purge
  2. A new core setting was created called “KeepRemotePurgedComputerData” that allows for keeping resource data
  3. When "KeepRemotePurgedComputerData" is set to TRUE the RemotePurgedComputer table will not be cleared

Resolution

The Hierarchy purging process occurs as follows:

  1. During purging the Child SMP Server will send a hierarchy event to the Parent SMP server
  2. Parent SMP server will save the purged computers list into the RemotePurgedComputer table
  3. If the "KeepRemotePurgedComputerData" setting is set to FALSE then the Parent SMP server will purge computers that are listed in the RemotePurgedComputer table, even if they are "not local" to it
  4. After purging, the Parent SMP Server removes records that are purged from the RemotePurgedComputer table

NOTE: The RemotePurgedComputer table contains the following information:

  • GUID
  • PurgedType (0 indicates that computer was deleted)
  • ServerGuid (Server which purged computer, it should be computer OwnerNS)
