Error: "Failed to load list of tables/sheets. The 'Microsoft.ACE.OLDEDB.12.0' provider is not registered..." when using a Data Connector data source with Excel

Issue/Introduction

When trying to use a Data Connector data source (an OLEDB data source) with an Excel spreadsheet, the error:

"Failed to load list of tables/sheets. The 'Microsoft.ACE.OLDEDB.12.0' provider is not registered on the local machine." occurs.

Environment

ITMS 8.x

Cause

Altiris requires Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable (64-bit) to be installed on Symantec Management Platform server in order to access data in an Excel spreadsheet externally from the Excel software.

Resolution

1. Download and install Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable (64-bit) (AccessDatabaseEngine_x64.exe) from the following Microsoft website onto the Symantec Management Platform server: Download Access 2010 Runtime, Database Engine Redistributable and Source Code Control
2. Afterwards, open a Data Connector data source.
3. Point it to an Excel file or in the "Worksheet name" field.
4. Click on the Refresh button.
5. The error should no longer occur.
