Can an Ideal program read a variable sequential file?

Issue/Introduction

Ideal applications can read and/or update sequential datasets, via modeled or unmodeled dataviews. 

Is it possible to define a sequential dataview for a variable file (RECFM=V or RECFM=VB)?

No, it’s not possible, as stated on Ideal documentation.

 

 

For modeled dataviews:

Variable Length Records

 

Not supported.

 

For unmodeled dataviews:

Variable length fields are not supported for sequential files.
