Issue/Introduction

How to reset the password for the CA Service Catalog Setup Utility or usm/config.

To be able to login to the appropriate utility when the password is unknown.

Sometimes it happens that the password is forgotten or otherwise unknown.

It  then is nice to be able to (re)set the password for the CA Service Catalog Setup utility.

Environment

Windows running CA Service Catalog R12.9 or R14.1 release.

Resolution

Run the CA Service Catalog(SC) Setup Utility from within a browser:
Browser for http://[EXAMPLE CATALOG SERVER]:[CATALOG PORT]/usm/config
Or
Run the CA Service Catalog Setup Utility:
Start>all programs>CA>Service Catalog>Service Catalog - Launch Setup utility

You need to login first.
A first-time login needs the password to be entered twice(for confirmation).

Entering the correct password, even after a number of times entering the wrong one, should get you in.
Should you, for whatever reason, not be able to enter the correct password, you can then reset it this way:
1 Open the file %USM_HOME%/config.properties.
2 Change the line: setup.utility.password = xxx, by clearing the password as stored and visible.
3 Save the file.
4 Restart the SC-Service
5 Login to the SC Setup Utility as a 'first-time-login'.
