Issue/Introduction

This article will explain in detail how to add a supported masking function against a particular Database type in the Transformation Map screen of Datamaker if not already available for use.

In cases where the Transformation Map screen of Datamaker is used to create and store the masking files, sometimes the new masking functions that are supported by Fast Data Masker may not be available in the drop-down for use.
To resolve this, the masking functions need to be added by hand so that we can see them in the function's drop-down list.

Environment

Test Data Manager- Datamaker
TDM
FDM

Resolution

Prerequisite:

Make sure that the masking function that you are about to add is supported by Fast Data Masker (FDM).
This can be checked in the documentation available on our docops site here- Masking Functions and Parameters (broadcom.com)

Steps to resolve issue:

  1. Launch GTDatamaker
  2. Go to Tools-> Maintain Data Functions page.
  3. Database, Data Type, Function, and Description columns will come up.
  4. Click on the green plus button. It will take you to the bottom of the list.
  5. Choose Database Type from the drop down list. For example, SDM. This way when you are exporting the file out, it will be in sync with FDM syntax.
  6. Choose the appropriate Data Type, masking function name as per the documentation, and an appropriate description.
  7. Click on the save button. You can now see the masking function in the drop down list of the transformation map screen for the map of the type SDM.
