Issue/Introduction

The xcomd service fails to start when the Windows 2008 server is rebooted. The service will start successfully if started manually. We receive the messages:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7000

The ServiceName service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

in addition to an error id of 1053 in the Windows Event log. What is causing the problem?

Environment

XCOM r11.6, Windows 2008 and later

Resolution

Event ID 7000 is coming from Windows and not XCOM. An article from Microsoft indicates that it is possible to increase the default time-out value for the service control manager by modifying the registry:

A slow service does not start due to time-out error in Windows.
