Issue/Introduction

Policy Xpress (PX) policies in CA Identity Manager are designed to execute based on specific system events, user interactions, or task workflows. Understanding the available trigger types is critical for designing effective automation strategies within the environment. This article clarifies the design limitations regarding time-based triggers.

Environment

  • Product: CA Identity Manager
  • Versions: 14.x

Cause

Policy Xpress policies require an environmental action to trigger execution. It is not possible to configure a PX policy to fire at a specific time (e.g., 12:00 PM EST daily) because the architecture relies on real-time task or event processing.

Resolution

When creating a PX Policy, you must select one of the following supported policy types, all of which require a specific action to occur within the environment:

  1. Event
  2. UI
  3. Workflow
  4. Submitted Task
  5. Reverse Sync

No time-based scheduled automation is available through PX policy.
