MICS initially stood for “MVS Information Control System”. However, over the years, Operating Systems have evolved to now the z/OS terminology, and MICS processes more than just mainframe data. So, now MICS is just MICS, processor of any system data for performance analysis, capacity planning, accounting, and reporting.

Today, MICS is known as "Management Information Control System".
