CA Spectrum upgrade can not continue

Issue/Introduction

While trying to upgrade CA Spectrum with an error similar to the following:

There was a problem with the installation.

Error : Install can not continue without the 10.4.0.0 patch being installed.

Environment

Any version of Spectrum
Windows 2012

Cause

During the upgrade, the installer checks on $SPECROOT/Install-Tools/.history file for dependent version or patch be installed first.

The dependent version or patch is not installed or the installer is not able to read the .history file for some reason.

Resolution

1. Review the patch release notes and check the .history file to ensure the dependent version or patch is installed.

2. Check the permissions on the .history file to ensure the installer is able to read the file

3. If the .history file is missing, check if the $SPECROOT/Install-Tools/.install_history file exists and if so, try and recreate the .history file using the contents of the .install_history file.
