Issue/Introduction
We have and old Earl module, EARLVSM, in an old link listed library that appears to be being called be our current EARL program. EARLVSM has a link edit date of 2000, and is no longer distributed for CCS, and I cannot find it as a LMOD or MOD in our SMPE environment. What is this? And what are the risks of removing it?

Release: COMCOM00200-15.0-Database Management Solutions-for DB2 for z/OS Component:
Resolution
First CCS 14.1 does include CA EARL. It is part of the Legacy download. It really has not changed much and is still at release 6.1. It is part of the full blown EARL product that you would have a separate contract for.
Second, if you do not have a contract for full blown EARL and you only use the CCS FREE Earl, then the module that matters is EARLR900.
Both of these modules are used for opening datasets through various access methods.
It appears, since you had the EARLVSM module that you had a contract at one time in the past. You might want to check the various EARL programs that are executed to determine what happens without the load module. Maybe you are still paying for and using full blown EARL.
If not, then the answer is YES, you can remove it without any impact to your environment.
