Issue/Introduction

Need to use a new scratch tape for the archive function.

How do we start a archive on a new scratch tape?

Environment

CA SMR
z/OS

Resolution

CA SMR CAPLARCH procedure uses the options member PL34OPTN. In this member is the field ALIMIT=   .

ALIMIT - This parameter specifies the maximum number of daily log files that will reside on a single archive tape.

If you set this to ALIMIT=1 and then recycle SMR (CAPLSMR) the next archive execution will note that it cannot stack SYSLOG archives on the tape.

If you want to continue to stack the files after this execution you can bring down SMR and then change the ALIMIT to a more usable value that fits your environment.
