Issue/Introduction

When I change an Ip Address on a pingable device that is modeled in Spectrum 10.2.1 and then later I change it back, I receive an error message saying “The update to attribute Network_Address was disallowed due to a rule implemented in the server” and the ip address cannot be changed.  Why does this happen and what can I do to resolve this problem?

Environment

Spectrum 10.2.1

Resolution

The problem has only been seen in Spectrum 10.2.1 and is due to another attribute USMOtherIPAddress (0x5b60004) being changed once, but when the ip address is changed back the value in USMOtherIPAddress is not changed back.  This will cause inconsistencies in Locater searches if the incorrect ip address is shown in USMOtherIPAddress attribute.

For Spectrum 10.2.1, please request patch Spectrum_10.02.01.PTF_10.2.188 from Support.

This problem is not seen in Spectrum 10.2.2 and higher.  If you see this issue in Spectrum 10.2.2 and higher it is because you need to move the IP address to the "Allowed Shared IP Addresses" on the VNM in the "Shared IP Detection and Alarming" area:
