- CA SPIM solution is packaged with SystemEDGE Core
- CA VAIM solution is packaged with SystemEDGE Core + All Available SystemEDGE AIMs (Plugins)
The calculation method of CA VAIM solutions and CA SPIM is via "socket"
(equivalent to 1 physical processor) of the physical machine that will be
the monitoring target. This also goes for the VM Host machines. Below are
three scenarios to clarify:
SCENARIO 1: physical machine monitoring (non-virtual)
- In this case, we use only the CA SPIM solution.
- Licensing corresponds to the amount of physical processors on the server
- A server with 4 physical processors will require four licenses of CA SPIM.
SCENARIO 2: Virtual Room monitor (hypervisor only)
- In this case, we use only the AC VAIM solution (monitoring only the
physical hosts the hypervisor does not include information from inside the
VM guests)
- Licensing corresponds to the amount of physical processors on the host
machine
- An environment with eight servers with two processors each require 16
licenses of CA VAIM.
SCENARIO 3: virtual environment Monitoring and VM Guests (+ Hypervisor VMs)
- In this case, we will use both CA and CA VAIM SPIM solutions (monitoring
both the virtualization environment as VMs running inside of it)
- Licensing corresponds to the amount of physical processors on the host
machine
- An environment with eight servers with two processors each require 16
licenses of CA VAIM and also 16 licenses of CA SPIM.
- Note that although this model allows monitoring of all VMs within this
environment, the amount of VMs guests have no influence on the licensing of
the solution, only the amount of host processor of the virtualization
environment
If you want to understand if the current license is in line with the need,
the only information that necessary is the amount of physical processors
available in regulated environments (separating what is physical and virtual
machine environment host).
Ex:
Physical machines: Total 200 processors
Virtual environments: Total of 400 processors on virtualization hosts
