COMMON SERVICES FOR Z/OS Common Services

Issue/Introduction

Customer is receiving a return code 8 when applying RO95587, RO96371, and RO97512.

  • RO95587 delivers an enhancement to CAIRIM known as the OPS/MVS Integration Service, a new common service that allows CA products to more easily integrate with OPS/MVS.
  • RO95587 is PE'd by RO97512 which corrects the HOLDDATA originally listed in RO95587.
  • RO95587 is also a prerequisite to RO96371 which delivers a second CAIRIM enhancement known as ESM Microservice to the USS File System.

After coding and running the DDDEF JCL delivered in the HOLDDATA for RO95587, the SMP/E apply is failing with a return code 8 after issuing the following error messages:

GIM69168E ** HFSCOPY PROCESSING TO THE CAW0ZFS1 LIBRARY FAILED FOR HFS ESMJAR IN SYSMOD RO96371. THE RETURN CODE (12)

Environment

z/OS 2.3 applying all maintenance to the CAIRIM and SERVCS components of Common Services for z/OS release 14.1.

Cause

The DDDEF for CAW0ZFS1 was created incorrectly.  The sample JCL shipped with RO95587 sets a path name with a CA directory at the end.
  /cai/CASoftware/CCS/uss/CA/

The DDDEF created by the customer was missing the "CA" at the end.

That extra directory is very important, since the mount point of the file system as coded is /cai/CASoftware/CCS/uss.

Without the "CA",  the target of the hard link will be outside of the mount point and cause the error.

Resolution

Code the DDDEF JCL as specified in the HOLDDATA of RO95587.

     /cai/CASoftware/CCS/uss/CA/
