SAP Provisioning Error: BAPI_USER_CREATE1 Failed - User Type 01 is Not Active - Identity Manager

Issue/Introduction

When attempting to provision a new user on an SAP endpoint via Identity Manager, the process fails with the following error: SAP Function call to "JCS@YourHostname: SAP: BAPI_USER_CREATE1" failed with error type "E" and error message "User Type 01 is not active".

Cause

This error occurs because the SAP Account Template used for provisioning is configured to use a specific license or reference user that is currently inactive, deleted, or does not exist in the SAP environment. The SAP BAPI requires a valid, active user to function as a reference for inheriting account properties.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you must update the SAP Account Template in Identity Manager to reference an active user account.

1. Log in to the Identity Manager Management Console.
2. Navigate to Roles and Tasks > Account Templates > Modify Account Template.
3. Select the SAP Account Template currently assigned to the failing provisioning task.
4. Locate the configuration settings for the SAP endpoint.
5. Identify the field configured for the "SAP User License" or "Reference User."
6. Update this field with a valid, active SAP User ID that has the appropriate permissions.
7. Save the Account Template.
8. Retry the user creation task.
