334 Check that the API server is running - Cannot Run Jobs on an Upgraded Remote Agent

Symptoms

After an upgrade of a master and remote agent on the same box, jobs will not run on the remote agent. The following errors are displayed in the awapi_start.log file:

231 Error number from open pipe 2.
334 Check that the API server is running.

Note: If the following line follows these errors, it represents normal functionality:

retry REGISTER_LOGS


Resolution

Do the following:

  1. Stop the master, remote agent, and RMI server.
  2. Delete all files in the status directory of both master and remote agent.
  3. Restart processes.


Further Steps

Look for errors in the AgentService.<time stamp>.log file. Search the Knowledge Base for more information on those errors. If you find errors, which you cannot resolve, send the AgentService.<time stamp>.log  file to Automic Support.
