Is there a setting which can be used, which lets ABORTED jobs go directly to the HISTORY instead of staying in the BACKLOG?

Answer

Yes.

The 'Stay in Queue on Abort' setting is standard for all newly created jobs. This setting keeps the jobs in the backlog, in case any Operator related action needs to be made on the jobs, instead of moving it to history. Un-checking this checkbox (under the General tab of the job) will make sure that any ABORTED copies of the job will be moved directly to history.
