Issue/Introduction

When attempting to run a UNIX job as root, the following error message occurs:

U2000029 Cannot start job with User ID 'root'

Cause

For security reasons, you cannot by default run a UNIX job as root.

Environment

Component: Unix Agent

Resolution

To allow jobs to be run as root, the agent's ini file needs to have the following uncommented or added in the [USERID] section:

root=START
This will require a restart of the agent.

Problem Persists:
If the above steps were tried and the error still persists, please contact Support after following the steps below:

*) Restart the UNIX agent
*) Re-attempt to run the job
*) Send Support:
   The latest agent log file
   The run number and name for the job throwing the error message
