Firewall settings for Applications Manager versions 8 and 9

Environment

Release: AAMOS499000-8.0-Automic Applications Manager-OS400 Agent
Component:

Resolution

A number of ports on the firewall will need to be opened for Applications Manager versions 8 and 9 to communicate with elements outside of the firewall. Those elements are typically a client session or a remote agent.

Automic support cannot provide the actual ports to use, you will need to contact your Network/Firewall Administrator for that, but we can point out which entries need to be made, and where those files reside.

This document outlines the entries to add, the files the entries will be added to, and the location of the applicable file.

Note: Entries made to the awenv.ini and Options.properties file(s) require a restart of the processes.  Actual port values are distributed by the applicable firewall administrator.

Ports to open on the Master/Automation Engine for inbound communications:

     AWCOMM_PORT   awenv.ini  $AW_HOME/site
     MasterServerPort   awenv.ini  $AW_HOME/site
RMIRegistryPortNumber  Options.properties  $AW_HOME/web/classes  (On master only)

Ports to open on the Master/Automation engine for Outbound Communication:

     AWCOMM_PORT  awenv.ini  $AW_HOME/site
     AgentClientPort  awenv.ini  $AW_HOME/site
ClientRMIPortNumber  Options.properties  $AW_HOME/web/classes  (On master only)
RMIDataPortNumber  Options.properties  $AW_HOME/web/classes  (On master only)

Web server port: If you installed the Apache Web server as part of the Applications Manager automation engine install, the default value is 5050.

Ports to open on the Remote Agents for inbound communications:

     AgentClientPort  awenv.ini  $AW_HOME/site

Ports to open on the Remote Agents for outbound communications:

     AWCOMM_PORT    awenv.ini  $AW_HOME/site
     MasterServerPort  awenv.ini  $AW_HOME/site

Ports to Open on the Clients for Inbound Communications:

ClientRMIPortNumber  Options.properties  $AW_HOME/web/classes (On master only)

If you installed the Apache Web server as part of the Applications Manager automation engine install, the default value is 5050.

Ports to Open on the Clients for Outbound Communications:

     RMIRegistryPortNumber  Options.properties  $AW_HOME/web/classes
     RMIDataPortNumber  Options.properties  $AW_HOME/web/classes

If a firewall is not in place and if you do not specify a value for the MasterServerPort port, the range of values of 60010 through 65535 will be used. This lets Applications Manager pick random ports each time the processes are started.
