Issue/Introduction

The VMS Agent does not start with the following error message when executing the uc$start.com script:

$ @uc$start.com
%DCL-W-DIRECT, invalid directory syntax - check brackets and other delimiters
 \SYS$SYSROOT:[SYSMGRDKA0\
%DCL-W-DIRECT, invalid directory syntax - check brackets and other delimiters
 \SYS$SYSROOT:[SYSMGRDKA0\
   "UC4$DISK" = "SYS$SYSROOT:[SYSMGR.BIN]" (LNM$SYSTEM_TABLE)
%DCL-W-DIRECT, invalid directory syntax - check brackets and other delimiters
 \SYS$SYSROOT:[SYSMGRDKA0\

Cause:
The VMS Agent was not installed on the default or home directory of the user. As a requirement, if the VMS Agent is NOT installed on the default home directory of the system user, only the following lines in uc&start.com must be modified by putting the installation root directory of the Agent.

From:
$   rel_dir     = ""

To(As an example):
$   rel_dir     = "DKA0:[ORSYP.ONE]"

Environment

OS: VMS Itanium

Resolution

The following line should also be modified:

From:
work_dir    = "''ex_login'" - "]" + "''rel_dir']"

To:
work_dir    = "''rel_dir'"

In this way, the default home directory of the system user will not be concantenated with the root installation directory of the Agent.
