When a variable is inherited within a Workflow in the Post-conditions from a task to another task and the value of the variable is shorter than the variable name the stored value may not be correct.
 
When passing values from a parent prompt set to a child task using another prompt set the variable is not fully resolved.
 
Investigation

Example:
ParentPrompt: &BRANCH#=PROD
ChildPrompt: &BRANCH_S#=&BRANCH#
ChildJob: :p &BRANCH_S# returns PRODCH#

Root Cause: When a variable is inherited within a workflow in the post-conditions from a task to another task, it is possible that an incorrect value is stored, when the value is shorter than the variable name.
