Issue/Introduction

Error Message :
U0034018 The specified license class '2' for Agent 'VERITAS' is less than the required license class '4' found in the HTYP table. Correct .ini of Agent.

This issue is specific to Windows Server 2003 only.

After installing some Windows Security Updates and restarting the server, the Automic Agent fails to start due to a License Class issue as shown in this log:

20130619/114519.281 - U2000073 Connection to system 'Automic' via CP Server 'Automic#CP002' successfully established.
20130619/114519.281 - U2000020 Environment : Hardware = 'i86/8/586'.
20130619/114519.281 - U2000021 Environment : Software = 'WinNT'.
20130619/114519.281 - U2000022 Environment : SW version = '5.2'.
20130619/114519.515 - U0034018 The specified license class '2' for Agent 'VERITAS' is less than the required license class '4' found in the HTYP table. Correct .ini of Agent.
20130619/114519.515 - U2000041 Closing Agent 'VERITAS'. 20130619/114521.515 - U2000010 Connection to Server 'Automic#CP002' terminated.
20130619/114521.515 - U2000002 Automic Agent 'VERITAS' version '8.00A102-101' ended abnormally.

If the .INI file was modified to have License Class=4 instead of 2, the Agent still does not run and in looking at the log file, it indicated there was not a valid license.  See sample log below:

Resolution

The Automic Agent reports in the log file whatever hardware data it is given by the Windows OS.  If it has suddenly started reporting something different for hardware, this information is coming from Windows.

There is an issue with WinNT 5.2 (or Windows Server 2003).
Check the Microsoft article that describes this issue about "the number of physical hyperthreading-enabled processors or the number of physical multicore processors being incorrectly reported in Windows Server 2003" - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932370.

These are the scenarios:

Scenario 1:
Check to ensure the the hotfix to resolve the issue has been installed on the server.  If it has has, contact MicroSoft (MS) support.

Scenario 2:
Check that the number of processors being reported are correct (i.e. the Windows Security Update fixed an OS bug for Windows Server 2003).

If the second scenarion is true, these are probably the options available:
  1. A new license will be needed for the Agent.
  2. The Security patch may need to be backed out.
