Issue/Introduction

Error Message:
 

U02004172 Error while calling function module 'RFC_SYSTEM_INFO'
Initialization of repository destination _E failed: Parameter ABAP application server host ('somehost') is missing

SAP Agent won't start and the error above is displayed in the SAP Agent log file.

Cause

This issue can have different causes, please check both points below.

Resolution

Step 1:

1. Open the SAP Connection object used by your SAP Agent.
2. Go to the Remote Function Call tab.
3. Enter the missing parameter value (in this case, Application Server).

Step 2:
To get an SAP-Server working with a Message-Server, an additional entry has to be made in the file /etc/services (Linux) resp. C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\services (Windows), please see SAP Message Server Parameters, list item rdisp/msserv for more details.
