When attempting to start the ENF component of CA Common Services for z/OS for the first time, ENF went into a loop and continually issued the message “DBES001I Unable to capture SVC dump. RC=8� until the task was cancelled.

Issue/Introduction

At first time startup, ENF looped and recursively issued the DBES001 message and the task had to be cancelled.

Cause

The ENFXMUF function was being invoked which required that the ENF MUF be initialized prior to ENF startup.  However, an ENF MUF was never created.  

Resolution

Apply hyper PTF RO73751 for ENF to prevent the loop and the possible recursive DBES001 messages. 

If ENF will not be used to record events for other CA Solutions, then no database is required.  If no database is used and to prevent startup errors, be sure to take the following actions:

 

Use member ENF from the CAW0PROC library

 

·    Code NODB and RECORD=NO in the ENFPARMS found in CAW0OPTN dataset
