Unable to install Common Components - "TMOUT: is read only" Error

Issue/Introduction

We are trying to install Common Components but the installer errors out with the following:

Environment

CA Workload Automation AE r11.3+

Cause

The TMOUT environment variable is used to automatically log out users after a certain period of inactivity. If the installer cannot temporarily set this environment variable to 0, there is a possibility the user's session may get logged while the installer is running.

Resolution

1. Check the /etc/profile for the TMOUT environment variable.

2. If it's defined in this file, comment out the line and save the file.

3. Re-run the Common Components installer.
