Issue/Introduction

Error Message :
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application

Running a windows job causes the following message with a pop-up on the Windows server where the agent is running:
 
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application

Once the 'OK' is clicked the job ends abnormally with the following return code:
 
U2000009 Job 'EXAMPLE' with RunID '169384996' ended with return code '-1073741502'.

Workaround :
This error can be caused by several different variables. Most of the time it is related to the permissions of the user who started the agent. Here are some potential workarounds:
  • Edit object and select 'Display job on desktop'
  • Reinstall Service Manager
  • Confirm the user has all required permission to run Windows job
  • Turn off UAC
