Issue/Introduction

Dollar Universe node does not start anymore and generates errors when the reorganization process is launched.
The process aborts before completion.

This may occur after migrating a Dollar Universe node to another datacenter/server.

Error in the output of the reorganization command unireorg or the automatic reorg that is launched during unistart:

Area X reorganization
Unable to lock port Number 10600 on SERVER_HOSTNAME. The IO X server may be running.
Fatal error: server IO_X is not stopped.
unable to reorganize /dollar/COMPANY/data/exp/u_fupr60

Environment

OS: All
Component: Dollar Universe 6.x

Cause

Cause type:Configuration
Root Cause:

The DUAS hostname resolution is not working. It may be that the old decommissioned server it's still running, or the /etc/hosts file contains a wrong ip for this hostname or that the DNS does not know this new server.

In some occasions the ping "hostname" command would fail.
In this specific case, the server hostname was deleted from the /etc/hosts file and so resolution was not possible.

Resolution

  1. Check the values.xml file and make sure the host name is pointing to the right host name or local IP address.
  2. Make sure the DNS is resolving to the hostname indicated in the values.xml file.
  3. Try to ping the hostname and verify that hostname resolution is possible.
Use netstat -na or nslookup commands to confirm host resolution.
  4. Check /etc/hosts file to avoid IP address conflict or a wrong definition for the host.
  5. Check that there is no clone of the Server hosting Dollar Universe on the network using the same IP address
