CA Test Data Manager (Data Finder / Grid Tools)

Issue/Introduction

Having an issue with three tables.  All of the other tables work.

When sampling data we receive the error ORA-00936 for three tables in database.  Query field is empty.

Error Message:

24-08-2017 13:12:58 - Title: FATAL CA Test Data Manager - Datamaker logon error
Message: Cannot connect using supplied values.

Connection: Data Target
Profile: DEV-ORA-TOP_DATA_SERVICES
ORA Oracle: 12545
ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist

Environment

Oracle RAC

Cause

User tried to just connect to Target and it failed 2 out of 3 times. When trying to test this connection outside of the tool, it failed in the same manner.  This rules out a problem with Datamaker.

Resolution

This was an error in the infrastructure, so this was addressed by the Infrastructure Team.

Two actions are suggested to begin resolving ORA-12545, starting by:

  • making sure that your listener is running (lsnrcrl stat)
  • testing connectivity with ping, and then tnsping.
  • verifying connectivity via the DNS (e.g. /etc/hosts)
  • make sure to check your tnsnames.ora parms.

Also important in resolving ORA-12545 if using VIP's is to "start by verifying connectivity via the DNS (e.g. /etc/hosts), and make sure to check your tnsnames.ora parms."
