Issue/Introduction

During the startup of the Provisioning Server, the process terminates and returns the following error: Required directory DSA 'impd-main' is not available. This issue typically occurs following a fresh installation attempt.

Environment

Identity Manager 14.5

Cause

This error occurs when configuration files from a previous installation remain in the file system. These remnant files conflict with the new installation's Directory System Agent (DSA) initialization process, causing the Provisioning Server to fail to start.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, perform a clean removal of all remnant configuration files before re-installing the Provisioning Server:

  1. Run the Provisioning Server uninstaller to remove the program files.
  2. Back up the directory paths mentioned below to ensure you have a recovery point.
  3. Navigate to C:\Program Files\CA\Directory\dxserver\config\servers\ and delete any files related to the previous installation (e.g., [HOSTNAME]-imps-router.dxi).
  4. Navigate to C:\Program Files\CA\Directory\dxserver\config\knowledge\ and delete any files related to the previous installation (e.g., [HOSTNAME]-imps-router.dxc).
    • Warning: Only delete files that were created by the original installer.
  5. Re-run the Provisioning Server installer.
  6. Verify the service starts successfully after re-installation.
