With the requirement to import masked data into a different server, the question arose:
Is it necessary to move the *.dmp files manually or is possible change the destination directory and save the *.dmp files in the remote server like a normal subset.
All this because, extracting the files brings processes at the business level as extra permissions among others.
Do we need import the data in a different server, is necessary move the *.dmp files manually or is possible change the destination directory and save the *.dmp files in the remote server like a normal subset?
This is a limitation of the Oracle Datapump utility.
Basically, the files have to be created on the same machine as the database itself, they cannot be on a network. Datapump uses an Oracle directory, which is a pointer to a physical directory.
So you cannot run the export/import from a client machine when the datapump directory is pointing to a directory on the client machine, the datapump directory has to be local to the database itself. For the import, the files have to be copied to the target server for the same reason.
