Scheduler Job Management

Issue/Introduction

Forecasting allows you to predict which schedules and jobs are selected on a future date. It allows to specify the date when the forecast should begin and the number of days to include in the forecast.

We highly recommend that you run forecast reports after you run the database Analyze report and review its output. The Analyze report confirms or denies the validity of the selection criteria you have used to define schedules and jobs. After correcting any errors or resolving any conflicts, you can then run one or more of the other forecast reports.

A Forecasting report is obtained executing the FORECAST command, that is explained in details in the CA Scheduler Report Reference Guide.

Running a CA Scheduler FORECAST SUMMARY command, it can happen that the FORECAST DATE indicated in the report heading cannot be easily compared with the interval time for which the FORECAST report was generated.

How CA Scheduler calculates this FORECAST DATE?

Environment

CA Scheduler 11.0

Cause

Here a sample Forecast Summary Report in which the Forecast Date in the report heading apparently doesn’t have any relationship with the timeframe for which the report is executed.

The FORECAST SUMMARY command, issued only for Schedule PPP900I, is the following:

FORECAST SUMMARY,FD=25042017,FOR=010

and below the output report generated:

CA, INC. PAGE 1
CA SCHEDULER 11.0 AM1 CH110 26 APR 2017 21.24.22 FORECAST DATE 28 APR 2017

CACU618W NO SCHEDULES/JOBS SELECTED FOR 29 APR 2017
CACU618W NO SCHEDULES/JOBS SELECTED FOR 30 APR 2017

CA, INC. JOB SUMMARY SUMMARY PAGE 2
CA SCHEDULER 11.0 AM1 CH110 APRIL 25, 2017 TO MAY 4, 2017 26 APR 2017 21.24.22

SCHEDULE -----JOB------
NAME NAME NO ST RC 25 26 27 28 29 30 1 2 3 4
-------- -------- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
PPP900I PPP999DX 01 40 1 S S S S S S S
PPP900I PPP999DX 01 40 2 S
CA, INC. JOB SCHEDULING SYSTEM UTILITY LOG CAJUTIL0 PAGE 2
CA SCHEDULER 11.0 AM1 CH110 26 APR 2017 21.24.22

The command ran on 26 APR 2017 asking for a forecasting windows from APRIL 25, 2017 TO MAY 4, 2017 but the report heading FORECAST DATE is 28 APRIL 2017, that is different from the date in which the command ran (26 APRIL) and from the forecast starting date (25 APRIL).

This example is done using the European Date Format.

Resolution

To explain how CA Scheduler calculates the FORECAST DATE found in the report heading section, it is important to know that:

-      If the forecast selection ‘From Date’ (FD value of the FORECAST SUMMARY command) is within the workweek, then the FORECAST DATE in the report heading section will reflect the last day of the week workday.

-      If the forecast selection ‘From Date’ is a non-workday, then the FORECAST DATE in the report heading section will reflect the ‘From Date’ of the command.

Looking at the example:

FD=042217   à   FORECAST DATE is 042217

FD=042317   à   FORECAST DATE is 042317

FD=042417 through FD=042817 à   FORECAST DATE is 042817 (last workday of the week)

It also takes into consideration your date-table and workdays.

Here a sample report using the US Date Format:
