Why is the parent value missing on the Iteration Status Board?

Issue/Introduction

When looking at an Iteration Status board with the Parent column added, it does not show the parent IDs of defects.

Resolution

The parent column on the Iteration Status board is only designed to show parents of User Stories.  This is due to the unique capability of User Stories to be parents to other User Stories.  To group defects, they will be considered part of a defect suite which is a different construct and has its own methods of representing hierarchy.
