CA Test Data Manager (Data Finder / Grid Tools)

Issue/Introduction

We downloaded TDM and are trying to install the repository. We are running the Oracle database install kit command from these instructions: https://techdocs.broadcom.com/us/en/ca-enterprise-software/devops/test-data-management/4-10/installing/install-test-data-manager/install-the-repository.html#concept.dita_69b73fb05d94a1d061a690d7454d7028f0b9dbb8_usethedatabaseinstallerutilitytoinstalltherepository

When running this from the command line, we are receiving the following error message: Fatal error: Dbms cannot be contacted. We went to C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\Local\Temp to find the ca-tdm-db-installer.log. The log file revealed the error message- ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified. SP2-0751: Unable to connect to Oracle.

Environment

CA Test Data Manager (TDM)- Datamaker

Cause

This error message means that the Oracle database cannot be reached either because the user does not have permission or because it is not running. Although you may be installing the repository on your local machine or a machine you are an admin of, the existing Oracle database may be in another location where your user does not have admin access.

Resolution

We suggest installing the Oracle database to a location where you will be the administrator of it and be able to connect without issue.
