Issue/Introduction

In Identity Manager, the Self-Registration task may send a temporary password email to users even when a requested username is already registered in the system. This issue occurs when validation settings are configured to trigger email notifications before the uniqueness check for the username completes.

Environment

Identity Manager 14.x

Cause

The task validation is configured to "Validate on submit" rather than "Submission." This configuration allows the email trigger process to initiate before the system completes the validation check to verify if the requested username already exists.

Resolution

To ensure the system verifies username uniqueness before sending the registration email, perform the following steps:

  1. Navigate to the Policy Xpress (PX) Policy associated with the Self-Registration task.
  2. Locate the validation settings for the task.
  3. Change the validation setting from Validate on submit to Submission.
  4. Save the changes.
  5. Test the registration process to verify that the username uniqueness check now completes before the email notification is sent.
