Resolution

Spectrum uses the information in the "Model Naming Order" parameter located in the SpectroSERVER Control subview of the VNM model for the model name of device models.

By default, it will read the sysName attribute on the device and use this value as the model name if sysName is populated.

If sysName is not populated, Spectrum will run a DNS lookup based on the ip address used to model the device and use the result as the model name.

If there is no result from the DNS lookup, Spectrum will set the model name to the ip address used to model the device as the model name.

This order can be changed by the user as needed for their environment requirements.

Additional Information

Note: If you do not want a specific device model name to be changed, set the value of the model's "LOCK_MODEL_NAME" (0x12a52) attribute to TRUE. This attribute locks the model name value so that it will not be changed.
