Issue/Introduction

UNABLE TO RESTORE FILE SPACE THAT CONTAINS UNDERSCORES

We’re not able to restore an SFS FileSpace that contains one or more underscore ("_") characters.
The data is backed up okay though.

We have several SFS file spaces that contain one or more underscore ("_") characters and we can’t restore them using Administrative Functions, Option 7 (Submit special SFS/BFS restores),
Option 1 (Restore a file space), or, using  the XRESTORE command.

Trying to restore a File Space that contains the underscore character using the Restore Panels, results in the following error:   Only one file space name can be specified

Trying to restore the same file space using the VM:Backup XRESTORE Command also results in error:   VMBSYS0015E _ MKD _ cannot be used with the XRESTORE command

The  SFS FileSpace cannot be restored using either of these methods.

Resolution

As a circumvention, you can create a TPI job to restore the File Space, or, you can use  the Restore CMS/SFS files options on the User Functions Panel to restore the top level directory
and each subdirectory, one at a time, to restore the entire File Space.

A permanent solution is to apply VM:Backup published solution PTF RO99849.
