Issue/Introduction
VMTVOL0701I HiDRO backup failed when trying to select a scratch.
We experienced a problem with our HiDRO backup job that failed with the following when trying to select a scratch;
VMTVOL0701I MOUNT HIDRO 0351 waiting for volume HO0062 which is mounted on 0000.
What does this mean and how can we get a scatch mounted?
Environment
VM:Tape, HiDRO, IBM ATL and DFSMS
Resolution
Volume HO0062 which is "mounted on 0000" ...this is RMSMASTR reporting that the volume is in use. When VM:Tape queried the volume, RMS came back and said the tape is mounted on another system. It could also indicate the volume is in INSERT status. Issue a native DFSMS command to QUERY the tape to check its status.
A best practice is to check the tapes out when you EJECT them so they will not be selected.
You may want to consider using VM:Tape's CHECKIN and CHECKOUT processing. When you do, make sure the RMS EJECT processing and VM:Tape's CHECKOUT/CHECKIN procedure are in sync.
