Unable to connect to the database. Error message: Io exception: Connection reset
Please refer the PIB #RI83557 to cleanup the unused server detail from the Database.

Cause

Due to the update.sh script is checking upon DE configuration data in the database it must be able to connect to it; if the connection is not successful, shown error stops the upgrading routine.

Resolution

In most cases the nature of the problem lies at networking media (starting from the point of the DE's jdbc), however if the DE installation is made on linux, it might have an issue with the entropy used by jdbc.

In this case, you might try to add the '-Djava.security.egd=file:///dev/urandom' into the VMARGS variable in the update.sh script:

VMARGS="-Djava.security.egd=file:///dev/urandom -Dlog4j.configuration=file:///${CAWA_HOME}/conf/disable.log4j.xml"
