Issue/Introduction

This article addresses inbound synchronization errors occurring in Identity Manager when the Corporate Directory configuration defines the uid attribute as optional, causing the etanotify process to fail.

Environment

Identity Manager 14.5 & 15

Cause

The etanotify process requires the uid attribute to be defined as required=true within the Corporate Directory configuration. If the attribute is defined as optional, the notification processor throws an error and fails to consume the notification payload.

Resolution

To resolve this error, update the Corporate Directory configuration:

  1. Log in to the Identity Manager Management Console.
  2. Export the current Corporate Directory XML file.
  3. Edit the XML file and update the uid attribute configuration to set required=true.
  4. Import the adjusted Corporate Directory XML file back into the Management Console.
  5. Restart the Identity Manager Environment (IME).
  • Note: The etanotify.log should show successful processing after the change. The system re-reads the notification queue every 10 minutes by default, so verification may take several minutes.

Additional Information

If you see notifications not being processed, see the article "How to clear Provisioning Server notification queue (inbound synchronization)"
