Issue/Introduction

The installation of SOI does not finish when the connection to the SQL Server is unavailable.

SOI 4.x

Resolution

Here is an easy method to test connectivity to a remote SQL Server without having any SQL Server Utilities installed:

1. Create a file with extension .udl on the system where you want to install SOI. For example...test.udl
2. Double-click on this file in explorer and you will get the Properties Window:
   
   
   
3. Here you can enter the SQL Server name, user and password ( SOI uses sa ) and select the master database.
4. Click to test the connection.
