Issue/Introduction

 

Have created new MCF Files but not able to update them; receiving messages such as U0001 error cloning System or s878; what is wrong with the files?

Resolution

If the MCF VSAM files are newly created and can not be updated one needs to check  to make sure that the files are not be compress by your system.  

The Endevor MCF files can not run in compress mode.

The easy way to check to see if your files are being compress is run a batch job attempting to add a SYSTEM or cloning a system and check for the following message: 

    VSI0603E UNABLE TO EXPAND INDEX LEVELS 

The first time there is an update to an Endevor MCF dummy records will be added to increase the Index Level to 2, if the MCF has been compress the expansion can not occur hence the error message.

Confirm that the VSAM file is allocated with compression off.
