What should be done when a MERGE job is canceled?
During MERGE processing, the DSNINDEX is updated to reflect the new volume of residence as each data set is successfully copied to its new volume. If the MERGE step terminates abnormally, the ARCHVOLS file record for the current output will have incomplete statistical fields. These are normally updated during archive CLOSE processing. The absence of this information will not prevent the restoration of a data set from the output, nor will it cause any problems during processing of the output in a subsequent merge.
To correct this please follow:
1. Use the IXUPDATE RESET to reset the OPEN flag on the abend ARCHVOLS.
2. In the next Merge that is run, add the parm INCLUDE=nnnnnn specifying the volser
of the tape that was being written when it abend.
This process will call in the abend tape, along with all other tapes selected by the Merge command, so the remaining data on the abend tape is moved to new tapes.
A separate REBUILD does not need to be done for the abend tape.
Because there are no tape usage stats in the abend ARCHVOLS, this tape woulde not be selected in later Merges by the PERCENT parm.
