Output Management Web Viewer

Issue/Introduction

How to migrate the 11.5 database to the 12.1 Web Viewer database?

An Export (migration) Utility is supplied with Web Viewer 12.1 that connects to your 11.0 or 11.5 Web Viewer SQL Database and writes .XML files for import later into the Web Viewer 12.1 database.  The export files are role and user and repository.

The database upgrade does not alter the existing SQL database, but only exports (copies) the 11 or 11.5 configuration to files that can then be imported into the Version 12.1 database.

Environment

  • Output Management Web Viewer 11.5, 12.1
  • MS SQL Server
  • View®
  • Output Management View™ for z/OS

Resolution

Running the Export Utility

The utility is run from /util directory in Web Viewer 12.1. VERY IMPORTANT: This utility was designed to run on Web Viewer for Windows 12.1. If you are running Web Viewer 12.1 on a platform other than Windows, please open a case with Support and we will assist you in getting your data migrated.

These are the values you will need to enter for each prompt:  You can find the SQL information in the Admin Tool for Web Viewer 11.0 or 11.5.
  • SQL Node Name - The name of the computer where the Microsoft SQL Server resides.  You can also use the IP address.
  • SQL Instance Name Defines the Microsoft SQL Server instance name, if you did not use the default instance.  (optional).
  •  Port - The default port is 1433, but most likely be different if you are not using the default instance.
  • SQL UserID
  • SQL Password
  • Database Name - Web Viewer 11.0/11.5 Data Base Name
  • Output Directory  - The 12.1 Export Utility will write .xml files as output - specify a location on your workstation for Web Viewer to write these.
The following two parameters are needed only if you have folders in 11.0 or 11.5 that access repositories other than View.  The Export Utility will use these to do a DRAS discovery.  If these parameters are not entered, or DRAS discovery is not successful, and you do have access repositories other than View, you may make updates manually in 12.1.
  • CCI (Common Communications Interface) Server  From the 11/11.5 CCIPC configuration.
  • CCI (Common Communications Interface) Port  From the 11/11.5 CCIPC configuration; 1202 is the default.

Running the Import Utility

Run the Import Utility from Web Viewer 12.1.

Additional Information

  • Folder definitions for the DRAS folder are migrated as Repository Objects.
The Repository Object name is set to the Folder name.

  • Generic users with folder set definitions are combined and migrated as Role Objects.
The Role Object name is set to the (generic) user name.

  • Role Objects are derived for defined (non-generic) Users.
The Role Object name is set to a value like DerivedRole_00000001.

  • Defined (non-generic users) and Personal User accounts are migrated as User Objects.
The User Object name is set to the user name.

  • Defined users are assigned to the Role Object derived from the user definition.
Personal user accounts are assigned to the Role Object based on its generic user definition.|

  • IMPORTANT: Temporary users (users who log in using generic credentials) are not migrated.
